I completely agree with you on the frustration of documenation folks. But, I must point out, that it doesn't need a process to spook documentation. It can just be the marketing folks requiring documents well before a feature is created and then the production team changing the interface resulting in the marketing documents having to be changed when the help file is just crying for attention.
